Who Are We....

5-12 Dessert Boutique & Lounge (f. 2014) is the brainchild of mother-daughter duo Daneen Heath

(Former Washington Redskins Cheerleader) & Tai Heath who plan to make their mark on the

highly competitive dessert industry creating artistically designed custom cakes, custom cookies,

and signature desserts that don't just taste great....they're a conversation piece. 


Obsessed with recreating the cake creations of cake artists and pastry chefs on "The Food Network",

at the age of 14, Tai knew a career in culinary arts was in her future.  By age 16, Tai's obsession with

cake led to her being sought after by teachers, family, and friends to make specialty cakes for special 

occasions.  Shortly thereafter, through a connection with her volleyball coach at Frederick Douglass HS

in Upper Marlboro MD, Tai was highlighted in a WUSA9 News "Junior Ace of Cakes" feature story

on high school athletes with unique talent.  Tai's amazing talent led to her being accepted with honors

to the Johnson & Wales University (JWU) Baking & Pastry Arts Program in Providence, Rhode Island. Tai's extraordinary culinary talents would later lead to an internship with Fluffy Thoughts Cakes in McLean, VA, as well as an amazing opportunity to study abroad in Italy.


Now 23, with a Bachelor Degree in Baking & Pastry Arts/Beverage Management from JWU, Tai's baking and pastry art skills have grown tremendously.  Through her culinary experience at JWU, Tai added to her cake obsession a passion for all things dessert and developed a confidence that she could start and run a successful dessert business.  Knowing this task would be a huge undertaking, especially for an up and coming Pastry Chef of her age, Tai teamed up with her mom and biggest supporter to start a family-owned business venture that combines both their passions…dessert and event planning.


Daneen has a bachelor degree in Business Administration (Hospitality & Event Management).  Driven by

her desire to see Tai’s entrepreneurship dreams become reality, by her passion for planning and designing

beautiful and creative events, and empowered by her excellent management and organizational skills both

she and Taiare up to the challenge.  The pair have transcended their very close personal relationship into

a great business partnership and are optimistic that their mother-daughter combination will be a recipe for

sweet success.

                                     

5-12 Dessert proudly creates their edible works of art at the Mess Hall Culinary Incubator in Washington DC

where they provide artistically designed custom cake creations, custom handcrafted cookies, and signature

dessert to include…cupcakes, French macarons, cake pops, cookies, brownies, frozen treats, and other dessert

creations to dessert lovers, occasion celebrators, party, event, and wedding planners.  5-12 Dessert also hosts a variety of dessert inspired events, parties, workshops, and participates in other special events in and around the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.  The owners

hope to use this as a stepping stone for opening a Art Deco/1920'-30s inspired dessert boutique & lounge much different than your typical bake shop in the future.
